I can’t believe it is already October! The summer flew by and has been busy since I returned from Scotland at the end of May! I got my garden going later than usual, but do to the warm weather and lots of rain, everything has come up and looked beautiful. I planted several elephant ear bulbs in a bed and they have really grown this year. They reached 4’-5’ tall and leaves of 3’! They look so tropical and nice that it was like visiting a tropical island in our back yard. Our Venus statue has been hidden since August! I have been working hard on Roam Around Tours and look forward to more travel in 2019!

I gave walking tours of Janesville’s Historic Districts monthly to good crowds and reinforces how much people appreciate their hometown.  I have been doing these tours for over 10 years and is always so much fun to get out and show off our local architecture and history.  I have one more left on October 13th.

In September we went out to California for five days.   We went out there to attend and IOC Olympic Collectors Fair in Long Beach.  It is always fun to shop and visit all of the table holders from all over the world.  I also get meet up old friends and usually make one or two new ones.  We took advantage of our hotel rate at the Renaissance Long Beach and did day trips from there.  We walked to the Long Beach Harbor and out to the Queen Mary.  It was a nice location in a walkable area with many restaurants and shops to look at.  We went to downtown LA one day with a visit to The Last Bookstore, Grand Central Market, the Angel’s Flight and walked over to the Disney Concert Hall.  We then explored Hollywood Boulevard with the Stars on the Walk of Fame and the hand and footprints of stars in the forecourt of Grauman’s Chinese Theater.  This area has become very commercial and mall like so it was not as enjoyable as it has been in the past.  We spent a day at Universal Studios to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which was a highlight of the trip.  We took the Catalina Express over to Catalina Island one day and enjoyed riding a golf cart up into the hills surrounding Avalon.  Catalina is a stunning place with beautiful views and the classic view of Avalon Bay punctuated by the Casino Building.  We ended our trip with a day spent at Disneyland and California Adventure Parks.  The parks were decorated for Halloween and truly brought out the kid in us older kids.  It was a nice trip allowing us to revisit old favorites and find a few new ones.

As September ended and October begins, I have launched two trips for 2019: Jolly Holiday in London and Scotland: Castles, Craigs and Casks.  These trips are scheduled for next May and I have worked hard to research and scout these trips to make them interesting and fun for all.  Be sure to check them out on www.roamaroundtours.com

I can’t believe it is October already and have a lot to do before the end of the year.  I hope to report to you more often and keep you updated on Rome Around Tours into 2019!
